Who We Are
The Kansas State 911 Board ensures that every 911 call made in Kansas reaches trained professionals over a modern, reliable network.
We oversee the statewide Next Generation 911 (NG911) system—an advanced, secure network that routes emergency calls using precise geographic data instead of traditional phone lines. Our work connects more than a hundred Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across Kansas so that help can be dispatched quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
The Board was created by the Kansas Legislature through HB 2690, effective July 1, 2025, replacing the former Kansas 911 Coordinating Council. As a state agency, the Board continues the Council’s strong foundation of collaboration, technology governance, financial stewardship, and statewide planning for future 911 services.
We serve Kansas residents, visitors, and emergency responders by managing 911 fee revenues, maintaining statewide technical standards, and supporting local PSAPs with training, data, and guidance. Whether someone dials 911 from a busy city street or a rural road, the State 911 Board’s goal is the same – to make sure the call goes through and help arrives.
Our Mission
To provide reliable, resilient, and interoperable 911 service across Kansas through innovation, accountability, and collaboration.
The Board coordinates partners in local government, public safety, and telecommunications to ensure that the Kansas 911 system continues to evolve with new technology, stronger cybersecurity, and seamless connectivity. By integrating mapping, call routing, and data sharing statewide, we strengthen the link between citizens in need and the professionals who protect them.
Our Values
Our work is guided by clear, consistent principles:
- Public Safety – Everything we do starts with a commitment to maintaining an effective, reliable 911 system for all Kansans.
- Efficiency and Shared Value -We seek economies of scale and shared benefit in every system we manage, pursuing solutions that reduce local cost and duplication.
- Transparency and Stewardship – We safeguard public funds and operate openly.
- Standards and Interoperability – We follow national NG911 standards such as NENA i3 to ensure compatibility between PSAPs in Kansas and across the country.
- Equity – We support rural and urban PSAPs alike, ensuring equal access to service.
- Collaboration – We build partnerships among PSAPs, carriers, and state agencies to achieve shared goals.
- Continuous Improvement – We seek greater reliability, security, and service quality year after year.
Together, these values reflect the Board’s commitment to a safe, connected, and responsive Kansas 911 system.
